BMS and KNX

 

A question regarding the DALI system and what is its relationship to BMS and KNX? 

Let us first know what is the word DALI short for what: 

DALI stands for Digital addressable lighting interface 

✅From this description, we can conclude that it is a system (or protocol) that allows controlling each searchlight separately, whether on-off or dimming, by saying that each searchlight takes an address ♧ almost like firearm. 

✅We can also conclude that the searchlights are connected to the Control cable in addition to the power cable .

✅This cable, guys, we call it Dali control circuit, and it will be a 2 core cable, a cut area of 1.5 mm2 .

✅This means that the searchlight in the DALI system will connect to 5 terminals (L+N+E) in addition to the 2 core network cable. 

✅The cable can go with a normal power cable without any problem 

The importance of the system: 

✅ The system allows controlling the searchlights in all possible ways and thus saving energy in the building and I can also make different lighting scenarios through the system 

The system is also flexible and reliable. 

System Components: 

✅The system is very simply a cable that is in the BUS system, meaning that you connect any device to the cable from anywhere and connect the devices to each other in any way, whether daisy chain or star network, as is clear in the pictures

✅The second component with us is that any bus system needs power supply 

✅The third component with us is the controller and this is the thinking mind that receives the input data and produces the commands 

This input data could be a sensor, switch, or signal from a computer 

✅The fourth component with us and it is an essential component of the torch components which is the driver or the ballast which must be DALI and this is a very important point in coordinating with the lighting supplier 

Delivery method or topology (shown in the attached pictures):

✅We can say metaphorically that the system consists of a loop or a bus cable 

✅This loop removes 64 driver torches, not a flashlight, and we focus on this point (I can connect more than one searchlight to one driver but you will control them together) 

✅The distance between any two devices in the bus is not more than 300 m and landing 

✅Those 64 devices can be divided into 16 groups, and each group can make 16 scenarios for him

✅The 64 device doesn't have to be all on the same linen, which means disconnecting the power from the control (meaning that the system controls the searchlight not the linen, and concentrate on this area) 

Ok engineer what is the difference between DALI and KNX and BMS

✅In short, the system is only used to control lighting and is limited to a certain number of devices other than BMS and KNX 

Ok, is it possible to use DALI with BMS or KNX? 

✅I will tell you yes by using the gateway you connect the system to any other system and the ideal case here is when you have for example a group of searchlights and you want to dimming them use the DALI system i mean you get the searchlights and drivers for them the dimming protocol is DALI and connect them to each other and connect them to KNX gateway and this way you used the two systems
